Dawaipani village in the Darjeeling hills

Our story

A family, a home, and a love for these hills

Humro Sano Dawaipani began not as a business, but as an invitation — to share the quiet beauty of Dawaipani with anyone willing to slow down and look.

How it all began

We are the Tamang family, and we have lived in Dawaipani for three generations. Our home sits on a gentle slope above the village, surrounded by rhododendron trees and a small kitchen garden that our grandmother planted decades ago.

For years, friends and relatives who visited would say the same thing: "You should open this up to guests." We resisted for a long time — a home is a home, after all. But eventually, we realised that sharing it was the most natural thing in the world.

We opened Humro Sano Dawaipani — which simply means "Our Little Dawaipani" in Nepali — so that travellers could experience the Darjeeling we know: not the tourist trail, but the real thing. The morning mist, the smell of wood smoke, the sound of the forest at night.

Welcoming guests at Humro Sano Dawaipani

Genuine hospitality

Every guest is treated like family. We cook what we eat, share what we know, and make sure you leave feeling looked after.

Rooted in place

We are proud of Dawaipani and Darjeeling. We support local farmers, local guides, and local businesses wherever we can.

Slow travel welcome

We believe the best way to know a place is to stay a while. We are set up for long stays, remote workers, and anyone who wants to truly settle in.

Meet your hosts

The Tamang family will be your guides, cooks, storytellers, and neighbours for the duration of your stay.
